Till recently lemon was not yet cultivated in Vietnam, and lemons were only imported, mainly for use in hotels and restaurants. This changed when a few years ago some farmers started to grow, what they thought was a new type of lime. Before a lemon can become yellow, they need to experience cold nights. As the nights in the Mekong Delta are always warm, the lemon’s stay green, therefore most people think that these are limes. Our team soon discovered that this was lemon and not a new lime variety.
After keeping the lemons in our cold storage for some days, the lemons became beautifully yellow coloured. Since this discovery, we are supplying the domestic market with nice yellow lemons, and started first exports to neighbouring countries. We supply our Vietnamese lemons loose and on trays to domestic and international customers.
